The Department of Mathematics and Chemistry, IIS (Deemed to be University), organized an educational visit to Jantar Mantar, Jaipur, for 36 students accompanied by 3 faculty members. The visit aimed to provide students understanding of India’s scientific and astronomical heritage.

Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an astronomical observatory built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in the 18th century. It houses a collection of nineteen architectural astronomical instruments designed to measure time, predict eclipses, track stars, and ascertain celestial altitudes.

During the visit, students explored various instruments such as the Samrat Yantra, Jai Prakash Yantra, Rama Yantra, and Nadivalaya Yantra. The guide provided insightful explanations about the functioning and scientific significance of each instrument, enabling students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications in astronomy and mathematics.

The trip successfully combined education with experiential learning, fulfilling its objective of promoting scientific temper and awareness among students.
