Students are required to familiarize themselves with software MATHEMATICA, for numerical computation on the following topics:

  • Introduction and simple arithmetic operations using Mathematica.
  • Limit of a function y = f(x).
  • Differentiation of single variable functions y= f(x).
  • Differentiation of product of two and more than two single variable functions h(x) = f(x)g(x).
  • Partial differentiation of order one of functions z= f (x, y).
  • First order partial derivatives and their representation in Jacobian matrix.
  • Partial differentiation of order two for functions z= f (x, y).
  • Second order partial derivatives and their representation in Hessian matrix.
  • Partial differentiation of order three for functions z= f (x, y).
  • Third order partial derivatives and their representation in Hessian matrix.
  • Jacobian Matrix at a fixed point.
  • Hessian Matrix at a fixed point.
  • Extreme point and value of a function of single variable.
